Here are a few details about me.
Academic stuff:
I have the BA in philosophy from the University of Calgary, the MA in philosophy from the University of Windsor, and the PhD in philosophy from the University of Waterloo. My MA thesis is titled "Hume, Miracle Reports, and Credibility." My PhD dissertation is titled "Miracle Reports, Moral Philosophy, and Contemporary Science."
My areas of specialization are philosophy of religion, metaphysics, philosophy of science, and ethics. I have also spent much time studying logic, especially informal logic (argument, critical thinking, and fallacies). I am very interested in applying careful thinking to religious truth claims and issues that bear on religious truth claims, especially issues arising out of science. I am also very interested in applying careful thinking to contemporary moral issues.
I was an adjunct philosophy instructor at Emmanuel Bible College (Kitchener, Ontario) and Heritage College and Seminary (Cambridge, Ontario). I was also a philosophy lecturer at St. Jerome's University (at the University of Waterloo, Ontario). On July 1, 2006, I became assistant professor of philosophy at Providence College and Seminary (Otterburne, Manitoba).
Prior to Providence College, my teaching repertoire included the following courses: Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Critical Thinking, Apologetics, Worldview Studies. At Providence College my courses include the following: Introduction to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy, Worldview Studies, Philosophy of Religion, Special Studies in Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Special Studies in Ethics. These are all courses that I think are great!
Personal stuff:
My wife tells me that she loves me, and I am super glad about that. We have two sons and we have been a homeschool family for 11 years (our eldest son completed grade 12 in public school a year ago and is presently kickboxing in Thailand when he isn't working in Waterloo, Ontario; our second son is in public high school and is presently seriously into weightlifting). While we lived in Waterloo, we attended Trinity Evangelical Missionary Church. Now we live in Steinbach, Manitoba, and we are attending Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church as well as Southland Community Church. I became a follower of Jesus at age 30, and I am super glad about that too.
